We finally got a brief respite from the rain today, so when I stopped by the house this afternoon, I was pleased to see the roofers back on the job.
Still no sign of the stucco guys, but I think the final layer has to wait until we have a few guaranteed rain-free days -- which could be a while...
Inside the house, Rob and Jim were cleaning up in preparation for the drywall installation. That has also been delayed a little, because they can't deliver it to the house if it's raining. There were a few new things since my last visit. The framing for the pocket door in the upstairs bathroom has been installed.
And so has the pull-down ladder to access the air conditioning unit above the back bedroom.
They also cut holes for the solatubes in the foam insulation, so there's a lot more natural light in the house. Hopefully, this is the only time I'll ever see this from the shower in the master bathroom:
Jim was impressed with how thick the foam insulation was. He said if we got enough ice, our house could be the world's biggest cooler.
On my way out, it looked like the roofers were making good progress. I hope they are able to keep working this week.
Our biggest headache right now is making a decision on the kitchen cabinets. Dane and I had a cabinet meeting with Cindy of CNC Kitchen Design on Friday afternoon, and then Josh and I met with her again on Saturday afternoon to look at paint and stain color samples. Yesterday morning, Dane and I had a 3-hour cabinet meeting with Wayne from Starmark Cabinetry to follow up on the virtual design meeting we had back in March. And then today I probably spent another two hours on the phone with Cindy going over the details of our kitchen and bathroom layouts to make sure the pricing she gives us includes everything we want. It's not that Josh and I are indecisive -- to the contrary, we know exactly what we want -- the problem has been trying to get the cabinet people to provide samples, specs, and pricing to us in a timely manner -- and finding something we can afford. One of the people we met with earlier on was very helpful, but the quote we got from him was nearly double our entire cabinet budget, so we had to scratch that and start over with Cindy.
Our builders are getting anxious because it can take up to 2 months for cabinets to be delivered once you place the order, so this could potentially hold everything up. We will be just as happy to put this behind us, but don't want to rush into a decision without getting all the information we need. You can't return or exchange your kitchen cabinets, so we don't want to order something that we've only seen a photo of in a catalog. It looks like we may need to make a field trip to a cabinet showroom tomorrow morning...
